The School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships programme operates across public and private schools and distance education and is delivered by CONNECT in the Richmond and Clarence areas of NSW, from Tweed Heads to Grafton and out to Bonalbo and Woodenbong. The programme supports Indigenous students to complete a Certificate II or III as a Trainee or stage one of Certificate III as an Apprentice by the end of the HSC year.
The School-based Apprenticeship and Traineeship programme is designed to support students into a viable career pathway. Students who complete the programme finish High School with their HSC, a Certificate Level Qualification and two years work experience. Many Students go on to pursue further training after the completion and can be offered further employment.
CONNECT works with students to:
- identify a traineeship opportunity with a local employer
- balance work, TAFE, and keeping up with school assignments
- address any issues which may create obstacles for the successful completion of the traineeship through provision of mentoring
The School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships programme is funded by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet through the Indigenous Advancement Strategy.
